Account Information
MOHELA manages its own Private Loans, oversees certain Department of Education loans, and offers servicing support for a select few lenders (SoFi, Earnest, etc.). In the first two cases, your MOHELA account number will be a unique 10-digit number that can be found on your online account or on a billing statement. If MOHELA only offers servicing support for your loan, please refer to your lender's website for accurate account information.
- For Department of Education loans, individual loans are distinguished by a Loan ID number, typically 1-01, 1-02, etc.
- For Private Loans held by MOHELA, loans are denoted by Loan Sequence numbers and are typically 1, 2, 3, etc. Please do not use the “Loan Program” as the unique identifier for your loan since MOHELA will not be able to identify payoffs with that information.
Billing Statement
If you have Department of Education loans and are enrolled in paperless, you may download a copy of your billing statement by signing in to your MOHELA account. From the left menu, select Tools & Requests, then choose Printable Account Information.
If you are enrolled in paperless with MOHELA Private Loans, you may view your statements by signing in to their accounts and selecting “Loan Details.” It’s important to note that our upload section can only support JPG, PNG, or PDF file types. If you don’t have a copy of your statement to provide, you can upload a screenshot showing your loan details instead. Please make sure the upload includes as much of the following as possible: your full name, a recent date, account number, and payoff amount. If we need any clarification on the information provided, our team will contact you by email before sending the funds to MOHELA.
10-Day Payoff Amount
The "10-day Payoff Amount" is your current loan balance plus ten days of interest for the loan(s) you'd like to include at MOHELA. If you have a Department of Education loan with MOHELA or a MOHELA Private Loan, you may locate your 10-day payoff information online. If you have a Department of Education loan with MOHELA, please:
- Sign in to your account here.
- Select “Loan Details” from the sidebar navigation menu.
- Locate the “By U.S. Mail” option, and enter this as your 10-day payoff amount.
- If you have multiple loans, you'll need to select each one separately.
If you have a MOHELA Private Loan, please:
- Sign in to your account here.
- Select “Payments” at the top of the page
- Choose “Payoff Quote” from the drop-down menu.
- Select a payoff date 10 days from the current date.
You may also receive your 10-day payoff information by requesting a quote from MOHELA customer support. Keep in mind that the 10-day payoff amount assumes payoff in 10 days and, therefore, may lead to an overpayment or underpayment, depending on when MOHELA applies the payment. Most overpayments will be refunded to Earnest and applied to your principal balance, but occasionally, they may be issued to you. For underpayments, however, you’ll be responsible for paying the remaining amount. If you have any other questions about your loan approval or need further assistance, please use the "Get In Touch” button at the bottom of this article.
Finally, these instructions may have been updated by MOHELA since this article was published. We encourage you to review their website for the most accurate payoff information.
