The Earnest mobile app is designed to offer a more convenient way to manage your loan(s) from anywhere. Launched in June 2025, the app is now available for iOS and is offered exclusively to existing Earnest clients with active loans for viewing and managing their loan information.
Navigating the App
The app is organized into three main sections: Home, Loans, and Account. You can easily switch between these sections by using the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. The Home section gives you a quick overview of your account, including upcoming payments and recent payment history. In the Loans section, you’ll find detailed information about your loan(s), like your current balance and how much progress you’ve made toward the principal. The Account section is where you can update your personal information, manage payment methods, and update settings and preferences.
Updating Personal Information and Loan Preferences
You can update your address, phone number, and manage your contact and document delivery preferences in the Account section of the app. After selecting Account, tap “Personal Information” to update details like your address or phone number. To manage how you receive communications, go to “Preferences,” where you can opt in to SMS or automated calls, and choose between paperless or paper delivery for your loan documentation.
Reviewing Loan Details
When you tap “Loan Info” at the top of the Loans page, you’ll be able to review more details about your loan. If you have more than one loan, you can tap each one individually to view specific information. This section includes key details like your loan number, cosigner information (if you have one), minimum payment, due date, original disbursement date, and your repayment plan.
Updating Payment Accounts
Before you can set up Auto Pay or schedule any payments in the app, you’ll need to add a payment account. To get started, go to the Account section of the app and tap on “Payment Methods.” In this section, you can add a new bank account, view and manage any accounts you’ve already saved, confirm whether Auto Pay is active, or remove an account by selecting it and choosing “Remove account.” It’s important to note that credit and debit cards are not accepted. Please use a checking or savings account when setting up your payment method.
Enrolling in Auto Pay
To enroll in Auto Pay for a 0.25% discount, make sure you’ve added a payment account first. If you’re not already enrolled, you’ll see an “Enroll in Auto Pay” button on both the Home and Loans pages. From this screen, you’ll be given the option between monthly and biweekly payments, adjust the total payment amount you’d like to make each month, and select the bank account you want to use for payments. To complete enrollment, check the box to agree to the Auto Pay authorization, then select “Confirm” to save your preferences.
Changing Auto Pay
If you're already enrolled in Auto Pay, you’ll see both “Auto Pay” and “Single Payment” options displayed as soon as you sign into the app. To update your Auto Pay settings, tap “Auto Pay” from either the Home or Loans page. From here, you can switch between monthly and biweekly payments, adjust your payment amount, or change the bank account you're using. If you choose to cancel Auto Pay, you can do that from the same section by selecting the loan enrolled in Auto Pay and choosing “Cancel Auto Pay.” Please note that you will lose your 0.25% discount for unenrolling from Auto Pay.
Making Manual Payments
To make a payment in the app, you’ll need to have a payment account added first. Once that’s complete, you can make a manual payment by selecting “Single Payment” at the top of the page on either the Home or Loans page. In this section of the app, you can choose your payment amount, select which loan you want to pay (if you have more than one), pick the payment account you want to use, and set the payment date for either today or for a future date.
Troubleshooting Errors
If you run into any problems while using the app, try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
- Force-close and reopen the app: This gives the app a fresh start and can fix minor bugs or glitches.
- Check your internet connection: Make sure you're connected to a strong and reliable Wi-Fi or mobile data network. A weak signal can cause loading issues.
- Restart your device: A quick restart can help clear out background processes that may be interfering with the app.
- Look for app updates: Visit the App Store to check for any available updates. New versions often include important bug fixes.
- Reinstall the app (as a last resort): If the issue still isn’t resolved, try deleting the app and reinstalling it. This can help clear out any corrupted data or settings.
