My application was declined. Would anything change if I asked for a lower amount? | Applying For Loans

If you are applying to refinance any existing student loans, we take into consideration the total amount of eligible student loan debt as found on your credit report. This means, requesting a lower refinance amount or a partial refinance of your student loans will have no impact on our decision.

If you are applying for a new student loan, decreasing your total requested loan amount would change the anticipated total repayment of your loan and could impact the decision. If you would like to see if changing your requested loan amount would change the decision, you will need to submit a new application by following these directions:

  1. Sign in to your Earnest account.
  2. Select “New Application” or “Products” at the top of the screen
  3. Find the "Private Student Loans" or "Student Loan Refinancing" box and click the "2 Min: Check My Eligibility" button to start a new application.

It’s important to note that our underwriting team will keep your credit report on file for 30 days. This means, if you submit your new application within this timeframe, it will not result in another hard inquiry. We're here to assist if you run into any issues.
