Can I Apply With a Cosigner? | Applying For Loans

Whether you are looking to share loan responsibility or potentially secure a lower interest rate, your options to add a cosigner will depend on the specific loan product you choose.

When applying for a Private Student Loan, you have complete flexibility in how you get started. A student can apply on their own and invite a cosigner, or a cosigner can start the application first and invite the student. The person who begins the application will simply send an email invitation to the other party to complete their portion.

For Student Loan Refinancing, after completing the initial Rate Check, you will see a prompt to invite a cosigner to your application*. This invitation must be sent after your Rate Check but before you submit your full application, as a cosigner cannot be added later in the process. If you have already submitted your application without sending the invitation, you will need to withdraw your current application and start a new one to regain access to the cosigner prompt.

Finally, Personal Loans are available only to individual applicants. At this time, we don’t offer the option to apply with a cosigner or submit a joint application. Eligibility is based on your individual credit and financial profile.

Regardless of the application type you choose to submit, we encourage you to review the Eligibility Guide & Requirements first.

*Due to state regulations, we are currently unable to accept cosigners who reside in Connecticut for Student Loan Refinancing.
